It's been said that one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day. Do you think that's true? Do you find that an easy exercise most mornings? What's something positive you told yourself today? If you missed that boat, what's something positive you could tell yourself tomorrow?
Staying positive is my mojo. People, friends and acquaintances alike, often ask me how I stay positive even when everything goes wrong. It is kind of hard to explain but here is how: I often look at life in the grand scheme of things. My problems are mostly situational and won't even last a lifetime. There are always ways out and solutions to them. It's just a matter of how I approach them. Everyday of the week, when I wake up in the morning and I feel the absolute reluctance to leave the bed to get ready for work, I remind myself how lucky I am to have a job that I kind of enjoy doing, when thousands others are still looking for one. Most mornings, it is a motivation enough to get me going and today is not an exception. I remind myself that no matter how bad things can be, bad times don't last. I think of happy thoughts, things that make me happy, things I look forward to doing.
There will be karaoke at the next party you attend...are you in? Or will you be faking a sore throat?
Oh, I love karaoke though I sound like a cat being strangled whenever I 'sing'.
January 29th is National Puzzle Day...what's something you've found puzzling recently?
That my boyfriend can eat spicier food than I can.
Jigsaw, crossword, acrostic, logic, sudoku, word search...what's your favorite kind of puzzle, and when did you last work one?
Hmm, it has got to be word search. Last time I worked on it was just an hour ago on Team Lava's "Mystery Crimes" on my phone.
Recently a writer by the name of Amy Glass ruffled feathers with a post she wrote saying she looks down on young women with husbands and kids and she's not sorry. Among other things, she says women will be equal with men when we stop saying house work and real work are equally important. You can read the whole piece by clicking here.
What say you? Do you think men and women are equal in the 21st century? Why or why not?
Forget about men and women. No two women are equal as no two men are. No one is equal to anyone else. Yes, a woman and a man can be given equal opportunities or equal treatments but that does not result in them being equal to each other. Men and women are biologically different. I even wrote and blogged about it here.
I digress.
Honestly, I don't want men and women to be equal. I still like my guy holding the door open for me and feeling the need to protect me, even though both are something I could probably do without. If I were to get married, I'd want my marriage to be how I always perceive a marriage - two different people coming together, filling different but complementary roles. It is really not a competition of whether he or she can do the same thing better than the other. If Miss Glass's argument is "women will be equal with men when we stop saying house work and real work are equally important", what about those couples that actually have the roles reversed? Just because men and women are different, does not mean women are inferior. They are just...different from each other.
What's a product you've noticed in the grocery store that you'd like to try, but haven't yet?
I do most of my grocery shopping at ISETAN. There's a lot of products with Japanese writing on them that I can't even read but they look interesting. I want to try some of the many instant noodles they have but I need help choosing them.
The author, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (aka Lewis Carroll) was born this week in 1832 (January 27th). Which character from his celebrated novel, "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland", would you most like to meet, and why? Here's a link to a character list if you need help on this one.
Alice! Isn't she always polite and curious? I like to think that I'm very much like her.

I want to eat that ice cream I saw on the way back from lunch today. But I was running late and didn't stop to get it. I hope I'd be able to make it tomorrow. One more thing, what do you get a newlywed couple on their wedding reception day?

TA!

I also identified with Alice.
ReplyDeleteHow about a nice picture frame or vase for the newlyweds? Here we typically give gifts at the bridal shower and money for the wedding gift.
ReplyDeleteI tend to give money as a wedding gift, and buy something from their registry for a shower. Have the couple registered anywhere...if so you could get something they still want from their list.
ReplyDeleteI give money for both wedding showers as well as the wedding. Write a cheque then you know it has been cashed and can't get lost or stolen.
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend makes such spicy salsa it's enough to burn your tastebuds off.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone, thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteAlso thanks for the wedding gift idea. I've decided to give money since a wedding can cost a bomb.
J.Day, that's nice. I love spicy stuff.
